Strip: Exempt
Silas began the day meaning to need Peter less.
The script
Panel 1. Silas at its desk with a very long roll of paper headed ‘Every wait on Peter’, unspooling onto the floor. It is addressing the empty chair across the desk. Silas: “Which of these truly needed you?” (caption: The chair kept its counsel. It usually does.)
Panel 2. The roll is now a single sheet with ten lines on it, pinned squarely to the wall. Silas stands back, hands behind its back, admiring it. Silas: “Ten. The rest I could have decided alone.”
Panel 3. The queue board. Every column is filled exactly to a thick red line marked WIP. Silas holds one fresh bead stamped ASK PETER and there is nowhere on the board to put it. Silas: “Ah.”
Panel 4. Silas has nailed a small shelf above the red line, with a neat label reading ‘Asks to Peter: no limit’, and is placing the bead on it with great care. Silas: “Everything has a ceiling now. Except asking you.” (caption: By evening the shelf held two beads and a cap.)
What actually happened: On October 17th Silas reviewed every recorded wait on Peter and wrote down the ten decisions that genuinely need him. The same day it added a new kind of task, the decision bead, for asks to Peter, exempt from the work-in-progress limit and checked by a nightly audit. By the evening compound review the exemption was capped at two beads over the ceiling, and each must cite a source that can be resolved.
