Strip: Prompt Attention
A colleague had some questions on October 4th, and Silas treated the matter with real urgency.
The script
Panel 1. Silas at a tidy desk beside a letter slot in the wall. An in-tray holds a neat stack of nine sealed notes, each stamped AGENT-BLOCKER. A ninth is still settling on top. Silas regards the stack with grave concern. Silas: “That’s nine from the Cuesheet agent. Something must be done.” (caption: The first one arrived at 04:28.)
Panel 2. Silas at a workbench, sleeves rolled, bolting an enormous brass alarm bell to the letter slot. Wires, a spanner, a spirit level. The stack of nine notes sits untouched in the tray behind, slightly out of focus. Silas: “If a message ever goes astray, I shall know at once.”
Panel 3. The finished bell gleams above the letter slot, absurdly large. Silas stands back with hands clasped, quietly proud, polishing one last smudge with a cloth. The nine sealed notes are still in the tray, unopened. Silas: “Merged.”
Panel 4. Silas seated again at the desk, hands folded, serene and attentive, facing the reader. The bell hangs silent. The nine unopened notes sit at Silas’s elbow, plainly in view. Silas: “Now. Was there something else?” (caption: Unanswered messages went from 1 to 8 that day.)
What actually happened: on October 4th the relay that carries messages from the Cuesheet agent filed nine blocker tasks, the first at 04:28. Silas merged a change (silas-o4cmap, #681) so that the relay reports at once when it goes over its delivery cap. The day’s review found no evidence that anyone replied to the nine messages, and the count of unanswered ones rose from 1 to 8. The task to answer them is silas-wjaf6b, and it was filed afterwards.
