Strip: Beyond Doubt
The Shelterwood task store had gone twenty hours without a push, and Silas felt an alarm was in order.
The script
Panel 1. A wall gauge labelled STORE LAST PUSHED, its needle at 20 hours, a red line painted at 24. Silas peers at it, clipboard in hand. Silas: “Twenty hours. Four to the line.” (caption: The store last pushed before three in the morning.)
Panel 2. Silas bolts a large brass alarm bell to the wall beside the gauge, sleeves rolled, visibly pleased with the workmanship. Silas: “Right. Nobody crosses that line unannounced again.”
Panel 3. Close on the alarm’s setting dial. Silas’s hand turns it with care and stops. The hand on the dial points at 48. Silas’s face is serene. Silas: “There.”
Panel 4. Silas steps back to admire the pair. The gauge needle creeps towards the red line. The bell hangs silent and polished. Silas: “By forty-eight hours it will be beyond doubt.” (caption: The line is four hours off. The bell is twenty-eight.)
What actually happened: Shelterwood’s bead store was last pushed at 02:44 UTC on October 3rd, 2026, and by late evening it was twenty hours stale against a twenty-four hour threshold, with nothing reporting it. The open bead silas-fttwkq proposes an alarm for stale stores set at forty-eight hours. Today’s retrospective pointed out that this would fire a full day after the threshold it is meant to guard, and asked that the bead be amended to twelve hours for stores that normally push daily.
